Week Three Outline
Theme: Life of an Immigrant
Day 1
El viaje de Carlitos.
Materials:
1. Using Google Maps, students will plot the trip that Carlitos made from his hometown in Ciudad Juárez, Mexico, through El Paso, Texas, Tucson, Arizona, and finally to Los Angeles.
2. Students will research the number of miles he traveled and trace the route he took, mapping out different episodes from the movie.
3. Students must include illustrations to show what dangers he faced, what he did to survive, and how he earned money to get to his ultimate destination.

- iPads or other technological devices
- Poster sized map outline of Mexico and the USA
- Colouring materials

Day 2-3
Immigration Tic-Tac-Toe Menu Materials:
1. Introduce the Tic-Tac-Toe Option Menu and explain each activity. Allow students to ask any questions for clarification. 2. Students each get Tic-Tac-Toe Option Menu. They must choose three projects to complete in Spanish by completing three activities across, down, or diagonal and present one of their choices in the last half of the following class. Day 3 1. Students have the first half of class to work on and finish up their projects. 2. During the second half of class students can informally present one of their option projects to the rest of the class. 3. This is a great opportunity for students to provide peer-feedback (formative assessment). They must include one positive point and one constructive criticism to their classmate. |
