Weekly Lesson Outline
During Week One students will be introduced to the preterite verb tense and will have the opportunity to begin practicing the use of this knowledge. Furthermore, we will begin exploring the theme of immigration in the hispanic world. What is immigration? What do we already know? What would we like to learn? We will then conduct a mini-research into the film study La misma luna as well as make our movie predictions.
The second week of our study will dive into the Film Study. As students are immersed into the Spanish language and culture of La misma luna, they will also complete a study guide to facilitate knowledge, understanding and discussion. At the end of the week students will create their own movie reviews.
During the third week of our unit plan, students analyze life of an immigrant by completing a mapping project to track the journey that Carlitos faced in the film. Students must track distances and map out where Carlitos ran into each dangerous obstacle. Furthermore, students will have the opportunity to choose three activities to complete with the Tic-Tac-Toe assignment to further investigate the lives that immigrants often face.
Week four is designed to explore the film's characters and their motives for immigration. Students will complete a character analysis as well as create their own interactive "interviews with the characters" from the film. At the end of the week we will film the interviews so that students can appreciate their Spanish language and enjoy their hard work on screen.
Week Five is designed to wrap up the Inmigración en el mundo hispánico unit plan. If more time is needed to finish up projects, please allow students this in order for them to hand-in well thought out and complete work. Students must also finish their final project which is completing the SQA Chart with what they learned. Students can have a choice as to how they present their findings and their project will be summatively assessed.
